The Nordic Trefoil-Gilwell training will be arranged in Finland during 2026 and early 2027. The language of the training is English. We are currently looking for trainers to begin the planning of the course.
Trefoil-Gilwell Nordic (or TG Nordic) is an advanced leadership training course for scout/guide leaders from all Nordic countries. It is organized under the umbrella of Nordisk Speiderkomité (Nordic Scout Committee). TG Nordic is the second training of its kind. The first TG Nordic was arranged in Sweden in 2024 – 2025.
Training events
The plan is to have three online meetings during Spring 2026 leading to a one-week training camp in Finland during Summer 2026 (June or early July). The training ends with a 4-day training event in Finland in the beginning of January 2027. Exact dates will be decided during the Spring 2025.
Furthermore, the training includes individual assignments. A major assignment is a development project that each participant will lead within their own organization. The project is approximately a 6–9-month task, and the course participants are expected to graduate on the last meeting of the training. During development projects the participants will be supported by trainers who act as their mentors.
Training content
The content of the training is based on the Finnish TG-training curriculum, which is accredited by the Finnish volunteer training centre (Opintokeskus Sivis) and is equivalent to 14 study credits on the EFQ5-level. The main themes of the training are:
- Me as a scout/guide leader: Who am I as a leader? What are my values? Sustainable self- and human leadership.
- Leadership in scouting/guiding: Leadership models of WAGGGS and WOSM, leading adults, communication and collaboration, feedback and motivation. Leading an organization.
- Operational development: quality improvement and development methods, service design. Planning, leading, and evaluating a large development project.
- Basics of scouting/guiding: Scout/Guide movement in time and future. The Scout Method / The Girl Guide Educational Method. International and Nordic aspects of scouting/guiding. Symbolism and traditions.
- Current scouting/guiding phenomena: Topical phenomena and trends in the scouting/guiding environment.
Contents will be adapted and structured to facilitate learning Nordic perspectives and sharing best practices. The language of the training is English.
Training team
The team will consist of roughly 14 members, representing all Nordic countries. There will be some ten trainers, two kitchen staff members and the leader and the vice leader of the course. The team will begin working during the Summer 2025 and continue until final reporting that takes place after the last training event in early 2027.
In addition to the training events, the training team will have 2 – 3 face-to-face meetings in Finland during Autumn 2025 and Spring 2026. Furthermore, the planning and preparation of training events will require regular and frequent online meetings with other team members.
The team is responsible for planning and delivering the advanced leadership training course for scout leaders. For team members this means
- Designing and implementing training sessions for the participants in English.
- Supporting and mentoring participants throughout their learning journey. Acting as a mentor for approx. 4 course participants and guiding them during their development project.
- Kitchen staff members will plan and organize food services during the training events. Some meals will be prepared by course participants.
- Kitchen staff member role will be adjusted based on applicants’ experiences. We hope that kitchen staff members can act as mentors for a couple of participants. Participating in training sessions is also possible.
We value diversity when selecting the team members. This means we are looking for, for example, a wide variety of backgrounds and past experiences.
The main prerequisite for a team member is that you have completed TG-training, Woodbadge training or equivalent, and that you are passionately interested in non-formal training.
Having expertise from scouts/guides, other volunteering or from work on mentoring or on some of the themes mentioned above is an advantage. We do not require all trainers to have trained at TG-trainings before. This training should be a learning experience to all the team members as well!
Applying
We are now looking for team members
- Trainers from all Nordic countries (in total 10 trainers)
- Kitchen staff members from Finland (in total 2 trainers)
Our objective is to conduct the recruitment in a transparent way. The application process will take place in two phases. In the first phase, we are focusing on finding people who are interested in a volunteer task in the TG Nordic team. In order to show your interest, please fill this quick form.
We will organize an information session (webinar) for those interested at the end of the first phase, on April 27th, 2025. In the webinar we will go through the basic structure of the Finnish TG-training, as well as the task as a trainer or kitchen staff member. The webinar will be an excellent opportunity to ask questions.
The second phase will begin after the webinar. We will then publish the official application form which we hope all interested would fill. The application period ends on May 15th.
Note:
This page will be continuously updated during the Spring 2025.
