Miksi kasvu?

Miksi ihmeessä kasvu on tärkeää?

  • Partiokasvatuksen tarjoaminen on meidän ainoa tehtävämme. Alueen lippukunnan vastuulla on tarjota alueen lapsille edes kokeilu partiosta.

Why on earth is growth important?

Growth is not about money. Not about wanting to have groups that are too big. Not about a selfish need to be the biggest and the most beautiful.

Recruitment of new members and growth are central parts of scouting. So that as many children as possible could have at least a tiny bit of scouting in their lives. That as many children and youth as possible could belong to a group, visit a forest, succeed in something and laugh with friends. So that they at least would not have to be home alone.

Recruitment and growth come down to vitality of scouting. Your own local scout unit is many times as loved as your own house. There you can be yourself, it is relieving to return there, being there feels good. Can we be sure that every local unit is still here after 20 years? Without recruiting new members, we cannot.

Growth as a word feels burdensome and indifferent, but in reality it is everything else but that. That is to say without scouts scouting has no meaning.

Everyone can find a reason for growth

When leading growth, it’s important to word your growth work in a way that everyone will be motivated about it and finds their reason to participate. You may think of for example the following reasons:

  • Making it easier for yourself. When you can share your work, you can do less yourself.
  • Being an educational movement is our only purpose. It is the local scout unit’s responsibility to provide the children in the area even a possibility to try scouting.
  • When there is more people in the group, it is more fun to organize activities. It is nicer to practice and play, when you can have pairs and teams.
  • You never have to cancel your events when there is enough people coming to them. Then your work is not wasted.
  • From the economical aspect, creating events in the local units is easier and less risky.
  • It will be easier to find a friend for everybody when there is more people, and maybe even a best friend, or two.
  • The leaders can focus on leading and the doers on doing.
  • It is easier to join a larger group, even for those who fear that they won’t fit in.
  • The quality of action will become better, as you have to plan better when your gang is larger. (Compare for example a trip of a whole unit versus a single group.)
  • The actions of the leaders will be more efficient when they can be divided into teams that will hold their own meetings. Not everybody has to think about everything.
  • The partners and other sources of funding are interested, when a lot of people are involved and the quality of action is good. The spatial extention equals to an interesting partner in the eyes of the stakeholders.
  • There can be more advent calendars sold and more membership fee revenues received so that it is possible to organize more awesome events and things.
  • Some leaders will have time to focus on organizing activities for the leaders only.
  • Competition between groups can bring better quality, when others will see that the neighbors did a cool trip, so they also want to do one themselves.
  • The big, common projects in a local unit, such as obtaining a boat or renovating a meeting place won’t take the energy of all the leaders.
  • The more members, the more parents there will be who can do something to help the unit.
  • It will be easier too keep a support organization going when there is more parents who you can ask to join in.
  • The youth program can be carried out better, when there are possibilities and places to realize the leadership excercises of an explorer, for example.
